Here, the Grateful Dead's Infamous Dancing Bears are Holding up the Classic Grateful Dead Skull with a Brain embedded, symbolically showing the Grateful Dead Community's support for Brain Cancer Research.
"On October 4th, 2021 I was rushed to University Hospital in Newark, New Jersey. While laying in bed with my mom by my side and at 3 AM I was diagnosed with Grade II Astrocytoma. A few weeks later and plenty of time in the hospital with friends and family; I was scheduled to have a functional craniotomy. October 14th was the surgery and the day after at 7 AM I was walking through the hallways of the St. Barnabas Medical Center.
After overcoming 30 sessions of radiation and simultaneously taking chemotherapy pills. Oh and don't forget the seizures, I continued living my life the way it was before. I continuously reminded myself to never give up. The fight was hard, but I went through 12 rounds of Chemotherapy, countless amounts of seizures and a few too many calls to Columbia medical center with questions.
With the support of my friends and family I was able to overcome this tremendous feat. This ongoing fight is a fight that will last forever, but I always am looking for ways to support other survivors and research for cures. Grateful Dead-Head Jon Heller once had a golf-ball sized Tumor in his Brain. Now, Jon's training to run a Marathon after completing a Half Marathon. We've all had our long strange trip, but Jon's was treacherous, grueling, unimaginable, and he prevailed with a burning passion!
